“This last Saturday evening I experienced a very nice art exhibition at Mitt Möllan/My Mill Field situated in the premises of Claesgatan 8, near Möllevångstorget/The Mill Field Square. It was called “Gallerinatt hos Mitt Möllan”/Gallery Night at My Mill Field”. I had been invited and decided to go there. Since I love art, love to watch art, movies, plays, to write, paint, draw, write calligraphy, take photos, listen to different kinds of music, perform on stage etc it was a natural thing to do…

…The first artist I bumped into was a very nice and attractive Italian artist who is living and working in Copenhagen, Denmark…

…When I saw Elena’s paintings I absolutely loved them. I told her I saw a good combination of colours, enticing motives, a good balance in the compositions and a kind of romantic mystique that went straight into my heart. One of her paintings is also called “Balance”, another one “Amore”. You can see Elena Pecci in a couple of the photos below, some of her paintings and in the first one also her French friend Estelle who helped her. In the photo they are talking to a couple of young women who were visiting the exhibition.”

BORNHOLMS CENSORED SPRING EXHIBITION 2013 – 

Finally, a Danish jury has selected one of my artworks! ♥ ♥ ♥ Opening is Friday 22 March. Then the exhibition open daily from. 13-16 until 7 April.

This is the selected painting:

The World of Children embraces Rock Culture: Svalegangens Dukke theater of Århus presents: “ Mother, tell me more”, the puppet’s theatre concert inspired by the music of Syd Barrett
A puppet theater is generally perceived as belonging to the realm of children. An object that has the charm of old times combined with a kind of historical artifact attracting vintage curiosity. But a puppet theater can touch upon any subject and embrace all stories embracing traditional theater where it continues to broaden the horizons of imagination. Puppets are not only just for children and for the stories dedicated to them, they are figures that can represent, with the highest credibility, similar tragedies that also encompass pop culture.

 

Is in this context, we are woven into the Svalegangens Dukke theater of Århus ( Check out their web site) show “Mother, tell me more”. Inspired by the music and the life of Syd Barrett, this show ventures with surprisingly positive results, into one of the halls of the Library of Frederiksberg ( click here to see their web site) the 11th-12th of March.

Per Brink Abrahmsen, on his own accord, gives life to the little theater of two-dimensional figures. Søren Mortesen, has created a show that clearly summarizes the most naive visions of Syd Barrett’s music, and depicts his difficult relationship to his mother and his love for Emily. She is the girl who inspired one of the most popular songs of the early Pink Floyd,“Golden hair”(click to hear the song). The show, depicts the time period in which Syd Barrett was a solo member of the Pink Floyd (about him). The music and play is filtered through the lens of his sad personal story and subsequent abandonment from the scenes. The general atmosphere is one of nostalgic memories and melancholy.

This is aided by the choice not to use the original sound tracks but, rather, to record the songs close to the gloomy atmosphere of the Pink Floyd of “The Wall”, lending to their early psychedelic brilliant years. “Mother, tell me more” has the great advantage of being able to create its own imaginative small, independent space, far from clichés and a stereotyped aesthetic pop. It’s an incredible show – unique in its form and flavor. A must see for anyone interested in such a conglomeration of artistic brilliance.

Challenge of the month of July: paint on a smooth surface with oil painting!

Toscana Memories

In my experience Oil Paints have surprising bonding characteristics in fact  it can adhere to a multitude of surfaces but oil paints require a rough ground in order to adhere to metal.

Painting on metal is probably one of the oldest forms of application of the oil painting technique. Painting on tin foil was already practiced in the very early centuries, for ornamental purpose and to imitate gold. Copper is probably one of the most superior supports for oil painting,because of an ion exchange which creates a chemically bond between oil and copper. But unfortunately the modern fornitures are made in steel, pigmented polyester powder and metal surfaces are too slick for oil painting that requires a prepared sheet.

So how to accomplish this challenge?

I have considered different preparatio, like:

Gesso, but I found out that it does not work as a primer on metal – it does not adhere either.

Garlic…even if  it was very thempting the idea, I have considered that I could not paint with a persistent garlic smell all around me neither present my artwork smelling as a bruschetta!

At the end I have used acrylic enamel paint that (intended for use on metal, and various surface indoors and outdoors)

So with regards to the endless bad smell the toxic enamel paint produces … I regret that I haven’t used garlic juice only…

Anyway…here is the long drying preparation…and what a result!
